ABOUT

We are all guilty of the good we did not do. —Voltaire

img_2209The Songs For Shelter story really began back in 2005. When I was six years old, my parents would bring me down to the Toussaint Academy. I was just a kid having fun and happy to be singing in their talent shows, but I had no idea back then what Toussaint was all about. No idea at all. But I do now. I’ve met many of my fellow teens, and they have touched me. I now understand why this place has always been important to my family.

In late 2014, my Dad and I were discussing how to put my love for singing and music to work for teens who are homeless and living on the streets of San Diego. We talked about how each of us has the ability to help someone – a hug, some food, or a warm bed can change a life. So, I decided that I wanted to do something for my fellow teens – teens just like me in so many ways but who find themselves living on the streets of San Diego. I just couldn’t imagine being on the streets as a teen and my Dad and I started Songs For Shelter to literally give a voice to what is an invisible and heart breaking tragedy.

It’s estimated that over 2,000 teens may be homeless on the streets of San Diego over the course of a year. To make it even worse, it often spirals downward from there for many of these teens – kidnapped, killed, rape or human trafficking are all part of the risk for our fellow teens.

Last year was the first of what will be an annual benefit concert for these teens – a concert by teens and for teens, with all of the proceeds from our concert directly supporting The Youth Emergency Shelter, run by San Diego Youth Services, and the current teens at the Toussaint Academy. Your attendance at our concert will help a teen like me…or maybe a teen like your own.

Please help. We’re going to do our part and put on another great concert, so please help us in any way you can. Thank you!

With love…
